Ross Loveday

Ross Loveday was born and grew up in Cardiff and studied Optometry in Cardiff, practising as an optician in Essex for many years. Having enjoyed art at school, in his early 30s he took up drawing and painting as a hobby and began to enter national and regional art exhibitions winning several prizes, including having his work selected by the then Prince of Wales and purchased for his private collection. He made his first prints alongside master printer Stanley Jones (1933-2023) at the Curwen Studio then studying on several courses the drypoint and carborundum technique. In 2008 Ross won the Julian Trevelyan Award at Originals at the Mall Galleries after which he decided to focus on printmaking, working with Leicester Print Workshop specialising in carborundum printing. His prints are inspired by the landscape; "my emphasis is on abstraction and texture using natural earth colours, greys, browns, blues, to suggest the unique feel of a place, to capture a fleeting moment".
