WOOLVERSTONE HALL
Woolverstone Hall was built in 1776 for the Berner's family and is now a Grade I listed mansion set within 87 acres of Suffolk parkland on the banks of the River Orwell, just five miles outside of Ipswich. With a rich history, stunning river views and spectacular architecture, Woolverstone Hall is a unique and beautiful setting. In 1930s, the Woolverstone estate was sold to Lord Nuffield, as an investment for Oxford University and during the Second World War it was requisitioned as a naval training establishment becoming HMS Woolverstone, a shore-based naval station. In 1950, the London County Council took it over as a boys' boarding School beginning Woolverstone’s heritage as a school and in 1992 it was sold to Ipswich High School who moved to Woolverstone from central Ipswich. Upgrades to the facilities followed, with the opening of both a new sports hall and a new theatre complex in June 1993. To this day, Woolverstone Hall continues to be a fantastic day and boarding school, stunning venue for theatre and sports and one of the finest country house wedding venues in Suffolk. Teachers at Woolverstone Hall include Esmée Joan Cromarty and Grace Kynaston-Shaw, those that were educated there include [[Edward [Ted] Gentry,1779]] and Jonathan Kennedy and those who exhibited from or at Woolverstone include Bella Ann Mandy, Peninsula Crafts and Charlotte Woollett.
