WHITWORTH ART GALLERY
The Whitworth Art Gallery in Whitworth Park is part of The University of Manchester, operating as a convening space between the University and the people of the city. It was founded by Robert Dukinfield Darbishire (1826–1908) a Manchester lawyer and philanthropist, with a bequeath from Sir Joseph Whitworth (1803–1887) an engineer, entrepreneur, inventor, and philanthropist and was named 'The Whitworth Institute and Park'. The first building was completed in 1908. In 1958, the gallery became part of the Victoria University of Manchester. Suffolk artists who are represented in or exhibited at the Whitworth Gallery include Jutta Bastian, Robert William Dodd, Tessa Newcomb and Reginald St Clair Marston.
