DODD, Robert William
Robert William Dodd was born at Lowestoft, Suffolk on 9 April 1934, his mother's maiden name was Dodd. Robert attended Sunderland College of Art 1952-1954 under Henry Thubron (1915-1985) and, after two years National Service in the RAF, at the Royal College of Art 1957-1959 under (John) Humphrey Spender (1910-2005) and then studied at Konstfack, or University of Arts, Crafts and Design, Stockholm 1959-1960 under Viola Hildegard Gråsten (1910-1994). A freelance textile designer and a fellow of the Society of Industrial and Designers and an occasional lecturer and painter. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 14 Stoke Road, Guildford, Surrey in 1980 'Vale of the White Horse' and in 1981 'Dragon Hill from the White Horse of Uffingham' and 'Long Man of Wilmington' also showing at the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester with a solo exhibition at Guildford House Gallery where he lived. Robert William Dodd died at Chichester district of Sussex on 8 August 1997.
