OLD FIRE ENGINE HOUSE GALLERY
The Old Fire Engine House is a three storey Georgian house in central Ely, near the Cathedral. The house was built in the mid 18th Century and Ely's horse-drawn fire engine was kept there at the turn of the century. The gallery has been exhibiting established and emerging artists since 1968 with the dedicated gallery space on the first floor, featuring large windows overlooking Ely Cathedral and Palace Green and hosts an extensive and changing selection of contemporary work for sale, extending throughout the entire house. Suffolk artist who exhibited at the Old Fire Engine House include Charlotte Harvey, Barrie Houghton, Elizabeth Ikin and Valerie Thornton and the exhibitions of the Royal Academy Schools East Anglia Group.
