PENCIL SOCIETY
The Pencil Society was founded in 1909, one of the founders being Frank Gillett and having an inaugural exhibition in May 1909 at the Dudley Gallery, London. Other exhibitions were at the Laing Art Gallery, Walker's Gallery, Paterson Gallery and elsewhere. Another exhibition was recorded by an advert in the January 1920 edition of 'Colour Magazine' announcing it would be held at the department store of Derry & Toms which was then situated in Kensington High Street, London. The Pastel Society held joint annual exhibitions with the Pencil Society from 1926 until 1988 when the two Societies amalgamated. Suffolk artists who exhibited at the Pencil Society include Cecil Ross Burnett and Frank Gillett.
