Emma Saunders was born at Pettaugh, Suffolk in 1972, daughter of David Baker and his wife Jennifer née Gray, who married at Diss, Norfolk in 1969. Emma studied art & design at Ipswich School of Art 1992-1994, then based in the High Street, Ipswich, studying under David Baldry, Michael Lumb, Ken Back and Richard Scott. She then went on to complete her B.A. degree in Fine Art at the University of Suffolk in 2006, being awarded the Tony Hefferman Award for Film. After graduation, Emma completed her first collaboration with Liberty Human Rights in London, formerly called the National Council for Civil Liberties, to produce a body of works for a ‘Gorilla Projection’ onto the Houses of Parliament, documentation was used by Liberty Human Rights and as advertising for the Suffolk University Campus in Ipswich. Emma produced large scale installations with film, addressing socio-political issues and went on to exhibit locally, nationally, and internationally. From 2018, working with curator and artist Glenn Ibbitson, her works were exhibited across England as part of the 'Room 103: a tribute to George Orwell' exhibition. Emma then turned to painting primarily abstract emotive seascapes, which resonated with her relationship with the sea, often painted from memory of specific times and places and she works across all medias. Her local exhibitions include at St Mary's Exhibition, Debenham; Art in Action, Tudor Barn, Ipswich; Art in Action, Copdock; Bury St Edmunds Art Gallery; Anna Airy Award Exhibition, Forefront Gallery, Ipswich and elsewhere.
