Francis Bowyer

Francis Bowyer was born at Hammersmith, London on 20 May 1952. He studied at St Martin's School of Art 1972-1975 graduating B.A. (hons) Fine Art and etching at Chelsea School of Art in 1978. Bowyer works in watercolour, oil and mixed media and is a member, and past President 2000–2003, of the Royal Watercolour Society and is a member and regular exhibitor at the New English Art Club. He lives and works in Chiswick, West London and has exhibited widely across the country. Awards include the W H Patterson Fine Arts Award 1995, and his work earned him the Arts Club Prize at the 226th Royal Academy. Not strictly a Suffolk artist but his paintings of Walberswick, Suffolk including at the Royal Academy 'Hutments on the Shore, Walberswick' and his interiors of Parisian restaurants create a lively vibrancy that has enchanted the public and buyers at each exhibition. In 2013 Francis Bowyer visited Camp Bastion in Afghanistan to make a series of war paintings, which are were exhibited with the Royal Watercolour Society at the Bankside Gallery in London. ​Francis's work is in several private and public collections including the Royal Collection, the RWS Diploma collection, the National Grid, and the London Federation of clubs for young people. He teaches life drawing at the Royal Academy Schools, London as well as at Richmond Adult and community college.
