Adam Riches

Adam James Riches was born at Ipswich in 1983, son of James Robert Riches and his wife Melanie Stacy née Brown, who married at Ipswich in 1982. Adam studied at the University Campus Suffolk in Ipswich, gaining a 1st Class Honours degree in Fine Art. Adam's work is concerned with the exploration of the human form, through the processes of drawing and painting. He works from photographic references and his subject matter ranges from historical, political and media figures, through to himself and the people around him. Primarily monochromatic, his characteristically stylised portraits and figurative works are sensitive responses to the human condition, ranging from furious expressive moments to poignant, melancholy reflections. In pen on paper and oil on linen, Riches’ searing explorations of the human psyche delve into the effect of current social and political issues upon the individual and the way in which people behave towards one another. Adam Riches is an emerging British painter and draughtsman and has exhibited from Romney Road, Ipswich at several venues in Ipswich including Waterfront Gallery and Prettys Art and in Suffolk at Snape Maltings Galleries; Bank Arts Centre, Eye and Old Jet Arts Centre, Rendlesham also in the provinces and abroad at Aux Gallery, New York; the Cyprus College of Art; The Art Space Cube Moscow; Nida Artists Colone, Lithuania and elsewhere.
