Genista Dunham

Genista Anahita Dunham was born at Poole, Dorset in September 1976, daughter of Richard John Dunham (30 December 1943-5 June 2000) and his wife Gitti née Niknejad (born 1936), who married at Bournemouth, Dorset in 1974. Genista studied at the University of Suffolk in Ipswich, the Slade School of Fine Art for her B.A. (hons) degree and at the Prince's School of Traditional Arts in London where she obtained her master's in stained glass. She also worked for the artist Tacita Dean (born 1965), assisting in the post-production of her films. Her training at The Prince's School marked a new stimulation for her, with an emerging fresh body of work, developing new skills in ceramics, gilding techniques, fine detailed painting, whilst discovering the inherent natural structure underlying complex design and combining her love for East and Western Sacred Art. During that time, she volunteered in a homeless shelter, which then led into workshops with young offenders. She then returned to Suffolk and taught Art & Design in a Suffolk gaol. A member of the Artworks group from 126 Northgate Street, Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk and has exhibited at the Suffolk Craft Society; Peter Pears Gallery, Aldeburgh; Ipswich Town Hall Gallery and at Blackthorpe Barn, Rougham, Bury St Edmund's.
