Emma Green

Emma Jane Green was born in 1979 and grew up in Eyke and in the nearby town of Woodbridge, Suffolk. Emma studied Art and Design Foundation at Ipswich School of Art before taking a Fine Art Degree in Hull. After graduating in 2001, she returned to Suffolk where she had a studio at Melton Road, Woodbridge by the river Deben. Being immersed in this landscape of marshy salting, the muddy estuaries and beaches of shell and shingle providing an endless source of inspiration. Paint is applied freely, gestural, allowing thinner swathes of paint to run and dribble while other areas are more thickly applied. The layering of paint allows for some areas to be scraped back to reveal hidden colours, forms, and textures. Emma has exhibited at the Red Gallery, Osborne Street, Hull; St Giles Street Gallery, 51 St Giles Street, Norwich; Frame Workshop & Gallery, Ipswich; Thompson's Gallery, Aldeburgh; Peter Pears Gallery, Aldeburgh; Thompson's Gallery, Aldeburgh and London; Denise Yapp Contemporary Art, Mill House, Whitebrook, Monmouthshire; Cambridge Contemporary Art; Snape Maltings Galleries, Suffolk, and sometimes collaborating with other artists such as Colin Slee and Kate Giles.
