Issy Coe

As Isabel M. Gorsuch, she was born at Leamington Spa, Warwickshire in 1950, daughter of Revd Frank Austin Gorsuch (16 March 1914-1987) and his wife Freda Rose née Handford (20 January 1915-2010), who married at Rugby, Warwickshire on 8 July 1939. In 1975, Issy moved from Northamptonshire to Weybread in Suffolk and married at Eye, Suffolk in 1979, Michael Douglas Coe, and paints under the name of Issy Coe. Her interest in art started as a child before studying Art and History of Art at A-level and went on to train as an Occupational Therapist. In 2004, after a weekend art break and several more workshops and painting holidays, Issy developed her own style of art. Working in watercolour and mixed media, oils, and pen & wash, Issy specialises in painting water, boats, landscapes, and skies, being inspired by East Anglia, with its beautiful coastline, harbours, and fantastic open skies and the Waveney Valley. Over the last few years Issy has been teaching art classes and one-to-one tuition and, in addition to teaching, also does demonstrations for art clubs and running workshops from her studio at Jessamine Cottage, Hoxne Road, Weybread. Issy is a Professional Associate for the SAA and received a 'commended' certificate for her work 'Saturday at Pin Mill' in the SAA, Artist of the Year Competition in 2009. Issy has exhibited widely, local exhibitions include the Waveney Springs Art Collective; St Mary's Church, Debenham; the Aldeburgh Gallery; Snape Maltings Galleries; Fisher Theatre Gallery, Bungay; Black Dog Arts Group annual exhibitions and Earsham Hall Art Gallery near Bungay. Issy is a member of Suffolk Open Studios and her works are in private collections in the UK, Ireland, USA, Australia, and South Africa.
