BEDSON, Gill
As Gillian Lesley Chesters, she was born at Crewe, Cheshire in 1957, daughter of Godfrey R. Chesters and his wife Marie née Oaks who married at Macclesfield in 1954. Gillian, when a student nurse, married at St Michael's Church, Crewe in August 1975, Michael John Bedson and works under the name of Gill Bedson. with a background in nursing for some 30 years, working in London then from a village near Leighton Buzzard, Hertfordshire, her husband's job took him to India where during their stay 2005-2008, Gill, being inspired by the colour and diversity of life, commenced creating artwork and teamed up with an Indian artist who assisted her develop her work. On their return to England in 2008 they moved to Suffolk and Gill studied fine art at University Campus Suffolk in Ipswich. At the same time, she and her husband set up a small holding at Chapel Farm, High Road, Badingham, Woodbridge in Suffolk, producing meat from ethically kept animals which gave her a rich subject matter for developing her series of prints. Gill completed the Curwen Centre Certificate in Printmaking in 2019, an assessed course, the assessors were Stanley Jones (1933-2023), a master printmaker and Chloë Cheese (1952-), a lecturer at Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts, which has enabled her to expand her knowledge of various print making techniques, when her practice became more experimental with combined techniques to create more complex work. Gill studied for her master's in fine art at Norwich University of the Arts and seeks to portray all this working in a variety of mediums, printing using techniques of woodcut and etching, calligraphy and dry point etching. A member of the Sudbourne Park Printmakers and of Suffolk Open Studios from Badingham and has exhibited across East Anglia and elsewhere.
