Deborah Alexander

Deborah Alexander was born at Perth, Australia in 1959, daughter of a Dutch father and an English mother. Moving from one side of Australia to the other and then multiple times to New Zealand, she spent time in Remuera Primary School at Auckland, New Zealand in the late 1960s. In 1989, together with her late husband and her children, Deborah moved from New Zealand to England and although engaged in painting for most of her life, it wasn’t until she was in her 40s in 2004, that she completed a Fine Arts Degree with Honours at Suffolk College, Ipswich and in 2007 a master's in fine art from Norwich School of Art and Design. Deborah paints in oil and her paintings are a metaphorical unravelling of the past, often patterned they provide a way of viewing, engaging with paint as a material, applying each layer to expose or cover itself.
