CROWE, Michael

Michael John Brook Crowe was born in the NW Surrey district in August 1942, son of Percy William Crowe (10 March 1913-15 April 1996) and his wife Ruth née Brook (14 March 1918-27 February 1997), who married in Surrey in 1940. Michael married at Kensington, London in 1965, Elizabeth J. Milbank. He studied at the Royal Academy Schools with students Hugo Grenville (born 1958), Christopher Baker (born 1956) and Hugh Webster and after retiring from a career in the city in 2000, Michael has been painting assiduously. A landscape painter but also painting flowers in their natural settings and gardens and has painted commissions of local Mill Houses and Tudor Hall Houses. He paints in oils but enjoys the challenge of water colour and charcoal. Voted East of England Artist of the Year at the National Open Art Competition in 2017 with his 'Big sky at Felixstowe Ferry'. A full member of Suffolk Open Studios from his studio at Shelley House, Shelley, Ipswich, and has exhibited in several solo and mixed shows including Cobbold & Judd at Hintlesham Hall, Ipswich; Chappel Galleries in Essex; Bankside Gallery on the South Bank and elsewhere.
