OSBORNE, Trevor Walter
Trevor Walter Osborne was born at Thurrock, Essex in 1952, son of Walter Kenneth Osborne (14 December 1913-1996), a linotype operator, and his second wife Sylvia Irene née Prosser (1917-1992), who married at Thurrock in 1947, and in 1962 they moved to Staffordshire. Trevor studied at the Stanfield Technical School, Stoke-on-Trent, and at the age of 16, won the National English School Portrait Competition. Admitted one year early to the North Staffordshire Polytechnic where he studied graphic design and subsequently completed degrees in theology and education to be followed by a post-graduate course in Figure drawing 1976-1981, while simultaneously lecturing in Art History at the City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College. In 1983, Trevor moved to the Isle of Wight which led to a new period in his work, being captivated by the movement of sea and light, and his growing daughter Rebecca was the inspiration for a series of studies, Rebecca was the daughter of his first wife Ann Woodcock whom he married at Stoke-on-Trent in 1971. Trevor has exhibited widely from 1974, firstly with the North Staffordshire Artists, and later with the Cheshire Artists and his work has been shown in several solo and group exhibitions in the Stoke-on-Trent area. From 1987, he exhibited regularly in the Isle of Wight, including Quay Arts Centre, Sea Street, Newport; Seaview Gallery, Walberswick, and was one of the first artists invited to exhibit at the launch of Kendalls Fine Art, Bath Road, Cowes but his work was also being shown nationally, including at Robert Perera Fine Art, 19 St Thomas Street, Lymington, Hampshire and Bartley Drey Gallery, 62 Old Church Street, Chelsea. In 2003, he took a position as head of a High School in Lowestoft, Suffolk and for the next eight years chose to work privately and did not to exhibit, but since April 2011 has been working as a professional artist. His subjects include figure work and portraiture, as well as light on water and the marine environment, his recent work has studied the relationship between people and animals who work together in the Suffolk landscape. From Suffolk he has exhibited with Suffolk Open Studios and undertaken several charity projects, including ‘Dogs of St Andrews’ for his local church and work with Racing Welfare in Newmarket with an exhibition at the National Horseracing Museum, Newmarket. He has worked with the Beccles Society of Artists and the Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle and his work is on view at the Ferini Art Gallery, Pakefield, Lowestoft and at the Sun Lane Craft Gallery, Newmarket. Trevor’s work has been sold worldwide, including Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, and the USA. He married in Hampshire in 1998, Susan Penelope Orford and has his studio at The Forge, Tooks Common Lane, Ilketshall St Andrew, Beccles, Suffolk.
