ROYSTON, Gwen Joy
Gwenelin J. Joy studied at Chelsea School of Art 1976-1979 gaining a B.A. (hons.) in Fine Art proceeding to an M.A. Fine Art 1980-1981. She married in France in 1981, artist Robert Royston and she now works as Gwen Joy Royston, they have a daughter, Abigail. Gwen was a part-time lecturer at Canterbury College of Art 1980-1981 and visiting lecturer at Goldsmiths College, London and Ravensbourne School of Art, Bromley, Kent. Assistant Art Director at Framlingham College, Suffolk 1981-1986, part-time lecturer at Suffolk College of Higher Education, Ipswich 1988-1989, she then moved to France where she painted in the Pyrenees 1992-2001. After four years as a part-time art teacher at Wycliffe College, Gloucestershire she returned to live and work in France later in Barcelona and London 2005-2012. Gwen had solo exhibitions at Minories, Colchester and Peterborough Art Centre; The Pike Gallery, London; Martha Stevens Gallery, Suffolk; Gallery of Modern Art, Wandsworth; The Wall Place Gallery, Conwy, Wales; Felsterbo Konsthall, Sweden; Wycliffe College, Gloucester; City Inn Hotel, Westminster; the Menier Gallery, London and Manuela Talaveranco Gallery, Seville, Spain plus many group exhibitions including Ipswich, Bury St Edmund’s, Halesworth and Norwich. She has also exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Show as Gwenelin Joy in 1980 and as Gwenelin Joy Royston in 1990.
