CLAXTON, Ruth
Ruth Sarah Claxton was born at Ipswich in July 1971, daughter of Ian Claxton and his wife Sonia née Osbourne, who married in Thurrock district, Essex in 1966. Ruth studied at Nottingham Trent University 1990-1993, obtaining a B.A. degree, and an M.A. in sculpture from Royal College of Art, London 2000-2002. She lives and works in Birmingham where she is Associate director of Eastside Projects, a public gallery in Birmingham which is being imagined and organised by artists. Ruth has had solo exhibitions/projects at University Gallery, Colchester; Arquebuse, Geneva, Switzerland; Ikon Gallery, Birmingham; Ingleby Gallery, Edinburgh; The Box, Pippy Houldsworth, London; Nottingham Contemporary, House of Beasts, Attingham Park; Undone Henry Moore Institute Leeds with shows in Santa Fe, USA; Guangdong Musuem, China and Seoul, Korea. Her publications include 'I thought I was the Audience' 2004, 'Lands End' 2008, 'Artists Postcards, A Compendium, Jeremy Cooper' 2012.
