AITKEN, Wilhelmina Rose

1886 - 1972

Wilhelmina Rose Aitken was born at Lansdowne Road, Bedford on 21 January 1886, daughter of Revd William Hay MacDowall Hunter Aitken (1841-28 October 1927) and his wife Eleanor[a] Marian Barnes (1844-27 January 1935), only daughter of William Thomas Barnes of Barnet, who married at Mildmay Park, Islington, London on 17 July 1867. In 1891, Wilhelmina was a 5-year-old scholar, living at Lansdowne Road, Bedford with her parents, 49-year-old William and 47-year-old Eleanor, with three siblings, Robert Aubrey 20, who was born in London, Marion Violet 5 and Evelyn May 3, both born in Bedford, and they were still living there in 1901. By 1911, they had moved to 64 Cathedral Close, Norwich where her father was Canon Residentiary of Norwich Cathedral. Her father died at Norwich in 1927 when her mother and Wilhelmina moved to Felixstowe, Suffolk. Wilhelmina was a member and exhibitor at the Woodpecker Art Club, later named the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle, 1929-1932 from Felixstowe and from Barnet now in London, where her mother died in 1935. Wilhelmina Rose Aitken was of Rowley Lodge, Arkley, Hertfordshire when she died at Felixstowe on 3 July 1972 and was buried in St Botolph's churchyard, Shenleybury, Radlett, Hertfordshire, she was unmarried.
