ROBINSON, Ivan
Ivan Robinson, whilst studying for a degree in geography, painted at the Ruskin School of Art in Oxford where his tutor was Geoffrey Rhoades (1898-1980). After graduating, Ivan went on to complete a post graduate qualification in photography at the London College of Printing. His paintings are in oils and acrylics and are principally of landscapes, often of details or the effects of weather. It is this combination of geography and art which afford him a unique way of seeing and interpreting a landscape. He hand-prints traditional black and white silver halide prints from his original film negatives. As with his paintings, his subject matter comprises rural and urban landscapes, often focusing on intricate details. Ivan has exhibited in London, Brussels, Chichester and at East Anglian venues including Snape Maltings Galleries; Minories at Colchester and the Highwayman’s Gallery at Risby, Bury St Edmund's. Sarah Kent, Visual Arts Editor, 'Time Out Magazine', reviewing his photography exhibition in London “The space in Ivan Robinson’s landscapes is flattened into ambiguous and very beautiful graphic images”. An associate member of the Suffolk Open Studios and has his studio in West Suffolk.
