JAMES, Liz
Elizabeth A. James studied at Stourbridge College of Art, 1981-1984, gaining a B.A. (hons) degree in Fine Art. After several years working in a sales and marketing role with Bosch Lawn and Garden at Stowmarket, Suffolk, Liz returned to study at the Norwich University of the Arts 2008-2010 and gained her M.A. in Fine Art. Painting primarily in watercolour, but also in acrylic and oil, is fascinated by how the weather and changing seasons affect the mood of the sea, sky, and landscape, marking the passage of time and finding that these are influencing her work. Spending a lot of time dog walking in Thetford Forest has resulted in an on-going series of autumn/winter tree paintings. A member of the Society of East Anglian Watercolourists with her former studio at 37 Hall Road, Stowmarket and exhibits her work in East Anglia including in Suffolk at the Buckenham Galleries, Southwold; the Edmund Gallery, Bury St Edmund's; the Aldeburgh Gallery and both the Pond Gallery and Quay Gallery at Snape Maltings Galleries and at Art On the Prom at Felixstowe, and in 2013 was a contributor to the 'Westhall Secret Postcard Auction' of a watercolour 'Tranquillity' and the following year 'Shoreline'. Her work has been published in 'The Artist in Our Midst II'. A former associate Member of Art on the Prom from her studio in Hall Road, Stowmarket, Suffolk but now lives in Cromer, Norfolk and runs the 'Art House Café' 10 High Street, Cromer, an art gallery with a coffee bar serving locally sourced drinks and cakes.
