WALLER, Arthur Henry Naunton

1906 - 1995

Arthur Henry Naunton Waller, was born at Waldringfield Rectory, Suffolk on 8 October 1906, son of Revd Arthur Pretyman Waller [q.v.] and his wife Constance Julia née Trevor (1873-1954). Educated at Woodbridge School, Suffolk and took his master's degree from Selwyn College, Cambridge University and took Holy Orders. He married at Tendring, Essex in 1938, Katharine Rosamund Eborall (30 April 1911-1988) and had one son and two daughters. In 1939, living at The Rectory, Leiston, Suffolk with his wife Katharine and was rector of Frostenden with South Cove, Suffolk 1946-1974. An amateur artist in oil and watercolour and a member of the Ipswich Art Club from 1932 until his death but exhibited from Waldringfield Rectory, Suffolk from 1927, two watercolours 'Awaiting the Gun, Woodbridge' and 'A Breeze of Kyson', in 1932 'A Street in Jerusalem' and 'Tower of Antonia, Jerusalem', in 1933 from 244 Cauldwell Hall Road, Ipswich two oils, 'Deben Marshes' and 'Morning Haze, Ramsholt', in 1937 from 20 Waterloo Avenue, Leiston, Suffolk three oils, 'Showery Day, Thorpeness', 'Ramsholt Marshes' and 'Riverside, Waldringield', in 1941, again from Waldringfield, he had four works on show 'The Deben Estuary', 'The Suffolk Coast', 'An April Afternoon, Friston' and 'A Suffolk Mill', in 1943 six oils, 'A Suffolk Haven', 'Eastbridge Marshes', 'Waldringfield Quay', 'Iken', 'The Common near Leiston' and 'The Creek', his oil painting 'The Bridge' was exhibited at their centenary in 1974. In 1977, he exhibited from 'Millfield', Waldringfield 'The Blyth at Walberswick' and in 1980 'Yachtmen's Service, Waldringfield' and 'Low Tide, Woodbridge' and was a regular annual exhibitor each year. He was also a member and exhibitor at the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle 1948-1949, from Frostenden Rectory, Suffolk, and a member of the Parson Painters' Society. He died at Waldringfield in January 1995.
