Annie Turner - Suffolk Creatives by John Ferguson

Annie Turner was born in Suffolk in 1958. She studied ceramics at Bristol Polytechnic 1976-1979 graduating B.A. (hons) 3D Design and at the Royal College of Art 1980-1983 for a Master's in Ceramics. In 1984 she set up her first studio in London with ideas for her work are drawn from the Deben, a tidal River in Suffolk, where for many generations her family have lived and worked. Fossils collected since childhood form the quality and colour palette found in her work, each colour linking back to the muddy foreshore on which it was conceived. All works are hand-built, glazed using lithium and a variety of oxides and fired to 1220oc–1230oc from her studio on the outskirts of Orford in Suffolk. Claire is a member of the Waldringfield Art Group and has exhibited widely including locally at Gallery East, Woodbridge and in London with Cavaliero and Finn Gallery, 268 Croxted Road; SoShiro Gallery, 23 Welbeck Street; Cavaliero Finn Gallery, 268 Croxted Road; San Mei Gallery, 39a Loughborough Road; Messum Fine Art and in Tokyo and elsewhere. Her works are held by The National Museum of Wales, Cardiff; The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge; The Victoria and Albert Museum, London; The Gardiner Museum, Toronto, Canada and with the Loewe Foundation.
