ARMITAGE, Sandra Wall
Sandra Wall Armitage was born in Manchester in September 1943 and over the years has lived in many places in the UK and now lives in Chelsworth in Suffolk. Sandra has always had an interest in art and studied textile design at Manchester College of Art as one of the youngest entrants on the course. Her career has been a combination of teaching, mostly in higher education, and working as a freelance designer. The vibrant style of her flower paintings led to a successful career designing for the gift wrap and greeting card industry. Training as a textile designer developed her versatility of style as an artist, and in addition to cards her designs have graced a wide range of products both in the UK and internationally including swimwear, soft furnishings, homewares, textiles and wallpaper. Sandra has exhibited widely including at the Mall Galleries in London and locally at Hadleigh Old School in Suffolk. Her paintings are held in international and private collections including The Shirley Sherwood Collection at Kew Gardens and the Cedric Morris Florilegium, Suffolk. Sandra was elected as a member of the Society of Botanical Artists in 2001 becoming actively involved as a director from 2004 and then a publicity officer from 2004–2010 and in 2010 appointed Director of Botanical Enterprises Ltd, the retail arm of The Society and elected as the President in 2013 until 2019. Sandra is married to Paul Nicholas Vaughan Armitage.
