WILSON, Edwin
Edwin Wilson was an established Suffolk-based printmaker. Wilson studied at Winchester School of Art 1968–1969, Cardiff School of Art 1969–1972 and the University of Wales, Cardiff 1972–1973. Ed’s prints are founded on rhythms and asymmetrical intervals inspired by often ignored everyday objects and events, developing his ideas primarily through printmaking, most notably within relief and intaglio processes, often arranging and positioning separate plates on the printing press bed. Within his practice lied the desire to create as simple a statement as possible, often utilising only ‘one cut’, in response to the commonplace objects and events that inspire them. Ed exhibited widely in the UK including at the International Mini Print Exhibition in 2017 and in Suffolk at Forum Gallery Hadleigh; Gallery 142, Felixstowe; Bircham Gallery, Holt; Stephen Walton Gallery and Wildwood Gallery, Bury St Edmund's also with the 13th Ipswich Sea Scouts and his work is held in public and private collections in England, Wales, France, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, USA, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, and Australia. David Edwin Wilson died on 19 February 2021.
