Barry Croucher

Barry Croucher spent some of his early childhood in New Zealand where his love of nature and wildlife first developed. He worked for the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food as an Assistant Scientific Officer and this background in biology was invaluable in his future career as an illustrator. Barry has worked as a professional illustrator since 1993, originally specialising in wildlife subjects using a variety of traditional techniques and media. He has now moved to computer generated modelling and now work using digital media in 2D and 3D, illustrating a wide range of scientific, technical, and historical subjects. Using the latest 3D modelling, sculpting, and painting programmes, images can be produced quickly and with a large amount of flexibility. Barry and his wife now live on the Suffolk/Norfolk border amid the Waveney Valley, complete with various guitars, including a 1964 vintage Gibson, which feed a passion for the Blues. In 2012 he won the Association of Illustrators Silver Award for Design with his recent work has been for the publishing market, magazines and books, with an emphasis on wildlife, technical and historic illustration. He exhibits with the Bell Gallery at Bungay.
