TODD, Pat
As Patricia A. Moye, she was born at Ipswich in 1950, daughter of Cyril Arthur Moye (4 April 1924-20 February 2003) and his wife Hazel Joy née Crascall (1929-5 June 2021), who married at Gipping, Suffolk in 1948. Pat studied at the Ipswich School of Art in the 1960s when one of her tutors was Beryl Debney and, following a period working with a ceramic artist in London, began to produce her own ceramic pictures, building up layers to produce work that has a wonderfully tactile texture and rustic look in white box frames. She married at Gipping in 1973, Michael C. Todd (born 1949) and works under the name of Pat Todd. Formerly resident artist at the Reunion Gallery at Gainsborough Road, Felixstowe, Suffolk, Pat's pictures are drawn from the Suffolk landscape which include a row of beach huts at Southwold or a Martello tower at Felixstowe. Observation of coastal erosion and weathering are key elements in her designs and, using heavily grogged clays and carefully selected oxides and slips, can represent the effects of the erosion process. Her work also includes jewellery pieces which are miniature versions of her sculptural work, and she has exhibited widely including at Art on the Prom and Art at the Ferry both at Felixstowe. A member of the Suffolk Craft Society, she currently lives at Felixstowe.
