SIMON CARTER GALLERY

The Simon Carter Gallery was opened by Simon Richard Carter (17 March 1939-31 August 1997) at 23 Market Place, Woodbridge in Suffolk in the early 1960s. The 1st exhibition noted was advertised in 'Country Life' as being held in December 1967 with the works of Thomas Churchyard and was a regular advertised of his gallery in the 'Country Life' magazine. He specialised in 19th century Suffolk artists and had stands at the Maltings Concert Hall at Snape 1969-1975 and had stands at the Fine Art and Antique Fair at Olympia in London in 1988 and Katie Sowter was a picture restorer at the gallery for several years. The Simon Carter Gallery had a solo exhibitions for both Barrie Houghton and Glyn Morgan in 1995. The gallery closed following the death of Simon Carter and the contents of the Simon Carter Gallery were auctioned by Bonhams, Chelsea on 21 January 1998.
