Carl Newman

Carl A Newman was born in Ipswich in 1959. Carl has been a professional sculptor since 1994, inspired by the natural world Carl has produced many sculptures that embody the animals' movements and character, with sketching, photographing, and watching the subject matter gives him an understanding of the species. Living in Felixstowe, Suffolk, the landscape and environment gives Carl many different habitats that contain a vast range of animal life to study with the estuaries especially interesting, with the migrating birdlife and otters that frequent the area. All his sculptures are initially produced in clay, known as 'masters' and are then moulded in high grade silicone rubber and reproduced in limited editions in either pewter, bronze, or bronze resin. A sculpture of a Peregrine Falcon, which was designed for the 'International Bird of Prey Centre' in Newent Gloucestershire for their 45th anniversary, was presented to HRH The Princess Royal by Carl to acknowledge her support as patron for the centre.
