MARSDEN, Ken
Ken Marsden originally trained as a fine artist and studied at the University of Sunderland 1974-1977 for a B.A. (hons) Fine Art and at De Montfort University 1977-1978 for a Postgraduate Certificate Art Education and graduated from the Manchester University 1996 with an M.A. in the History of Art and from Bath Spa University 2008-2014 for his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Fine Art Photography that combined an anti-pictorial representation of landscape with a socio-cultural study on the futility of creating artificial geo-political boundaries within the landscape. Ken worked as a lecturer in photography before becoming Head of Design (Enhancement) at Southampton Solent University and later Head of Learning and Teaching at Buckinghamshire New University. An artist and photographer currently based in Suffolk, and in Tuscany, Italy and his creative work has continued to explore the representation of both the rural and urban landscape by developing techniques in watercolour. He has exhibited in both solo and collaborative exhibitions at several venues in the UK including the Halesworth Gallery in Suffolk and presented papers on art and design action research projects as well as workshops on creative thinking at universities both in the UK and overseas. A member of Suffolk Open Studios from 55 Quay Street, Halesworth.
