SHAW, Nigel
Nigel James Shaw was born in Ipswich in September 1972. Nigel initially aimed for a career in science fiction illustration while attending Orwell High School in Felixstowe and during his studies at Suffolk College was pressured toward abstract art which pushed him away from the type of art he wanted and he moved to another profession for some thirty years. However, in 2016 Nigel rediscovered his passion and today produces meticulous monochromatic ink work using fineliners and airbrushing to create photorealistic images. Working in monochromatic ink using fineliners and airbrushing he creates increasingly photorealistic images, experimenting with techniques such as hatching, cross hatching, pointillism, random lines and a technique he created himself called skimming he captures the Suffolk landscapes and local landmarks, laid down on paper not unlike a fine art etching with an unexpected surprise Sci-Fi element. While he specialises in blending Suffolk landscapes with sci-fi elements, his commissions include Spitfires, Thames barges, and architectural studies. Nigel is now a professional, self-employed, science fiction, landscape and landmarks illustrator based at Shotley Gate, Ipswich with his wife Angela Lisa née Shaw who married at Ipswich in 2009. Nigel is a member of the Felixstowe Art Group, Suffolk and exhibits at Art on the Prom; Gallery 142 at Felixstowe and at the Craft House Woodbridge; Woodbridge Creative Market and W Gallery Woodbridge and elsewhere.
