Karen Turner

Karen E. Turner was born in London in 1978. Karen spent many of her school years in Geneva, before returning to the UK to attend Hampstead Fine Arts College in London. Now a Suffolk based figure and portrait artist, with a particular focus on the physical body and the scrutiny to which it is commonly subjected. She works in oils and seeks to highlight pigments in the skin that can often go unnoticed, emphasising and exaggerating them to accentuate their extraordinariness. In May 2021 Karen was awarded the President’s Prize at the Institute of East Anglian Artists Open Exhibition and in the following month was selected as a finalist in the Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter Prize, and in October shortlisted for the Women United Art Prize. A member of Suffolk Open Studios from her studio at The House, 6 Broad Street, Eye, Suffolk, Karen has exhibited widely including Sanctuary, The Leper Chapel, Cambridge; the Other Art Fair, London; Art Fair East, Norwich; Masham Gallery, North Yorkshire and elsewhere.
