Catherine Smith studied at Northumbria University, Newcastle graduating with a B.A. (hons) in Graphic Design and worked as a graphic designer in Manchester and Reading. Catherine then became a community artist in Middlesbrough before moving to Suffolk. Catherine aims to make her paintings and drawings a response to the landscapes and interiors around her, whether it from the views from windows, through doorways, along pathways or closer observations of plants and flora and her work captures something of the essence of these moments. Catherine exhibits in Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire including with the Society of East Anglian Watercolourists where she won the The Cambridge News Award, also with the Edmund Gallery, Bury St Edmund's; Lavenham Guildhall; The Babylon Gallery, Ely; Cambridge Artworks; Suffolk Echo Arts; Artspace Woodbridge and the Maeldune Heritage Centre Maldon, Essex. A member of Suffolk Open Studios with her studio at Copingers, 66 Water Street, Lavenham, Suffolk.
