GIBBS, Tom
Thomas Daniel Gibbs was born in Mile End Old Town, London on 6 March 1925, son of Charles John Gibbs (13 October 1897-1971) and his wife Catherine née Wright (21 April 1901-), who married at Mile End in 1919. In 1939 Tom, as he was known, was a messenger boy living with his parents at 99 Frizlands Lane, Dagenham, Essex with two elder siblings. A furniture designer and graduate from the Royal College of Art and appointed a full-time tutor at the Ipswich School of Art from 1953, taking charge of the cabinet making and woodwork at all levels, at the time this department was in the old Ragged School in Waterworks Street, Ipswich but later moved to the Civic Centre in the Rope Walk, Ipswich. One of his pupils was Jane Stocks. Thomas Daniel Gibbs was of 20 Lynford Hall Park, Thetford when he died on 22 September 1991.
