Michael Vincent

Michael John Vincent was born at Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk on 9 February 1949, son of Victor Henry Vincent (1913-), and his wife Hilda R. née Bridges (26 February 1919-), who married at Bury St Edmund's in 1940. Michael studied at Chelsea School of Art 1968-1969, he then spent time living and painting in Finland, returning to London in 1970 to continue his studies at London University 1970-1974, which culminated in the award of a master's degree. He married at Harrow, Middlesex in 1969, Kaisa Siska A. Veyalaknew (1944-2001) and they had one daughter, Jennifer. Michael taught art in various places for some years until establishing his first studio in Suffolk in 1987 and lived and worked in New Zealand 1991-1993. A further period of painting in Suffolk was followed by a move to Somerset in 1998 and the opening of a studio in Walton near Glastonbury. Following a period of challenge and contemplation after the death of his wife Kaisa, in 2001 he moved to Glastonbury. A landscape and seascape artist in oil and gouache, pencil and ink and has exhibited throughout the UK, Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India, and Brazil. In 2006, with a group of friends and supporters, he established the AshTat Centre for Creative Living, a Centre which focused on developing individual creativity in whatever form in a totally non-judgemental place. He returned to Suffolk in 2008, re-establishing AshTat as a project benefitting worthy causes, both locally and in India. In 2011 he returned to Somerset and works from his studio at 79 Northload Street, Glastonbury, Somerset. He is the author of 'Self Enquiry: On Being You. A Journey into Truth' (2016).
