MACEY, Julian
Julian Bernard Macey was born at 13 Victoria Terrace, Alcombe Road, Minehead, Somerset on 13 April 1920, son of William Henry Macey (1882-1925), a clerk in an estate office, and his wife Beatrice Annie née Lyons (8 January 1882-26 January 1958), who married at Farnham, Surrey in 1905, Julian's younger brother Leo was also a well-known artist. Julian was educated at the Duke of York's Royal Military School, Dover 1931-1939 and he served with the second battalion of the Essex Regiment then transferred to the Army Physical Training Corps 1939-1946 and attained the rank of Company Sergeant Major Instructor serving with the 5th Highland Division in France, Belgium, Holland and The Ardennes. Julian married at Brentwood, Essex in 1941, Margaret Annie Lee (1920-1978) and they had one son, Peter. Julian was Divisional Youth and Community Officer at Great Yarmouth and a self-taught artist in oils, watercolours, pastels, and pencil. A member of the Great Yarmouth & District Society of Artists and its President 1994-2014 also a Member of the Royal Society of Miniature Painters Sculptors and Gravers with whom he exhibited at Westminster Galleries and Mall Galleries and has exhibited in Tasmania and Washington D.C. in the World Exhibition of Miniature Art. He lived at 119 Beccles Road, Bradwell, near Great Yarmouth, Bradwell is in Suffolk. Julian Bernard Macey died in hospital on 29 October 2019.
