OLIVER, Emma Sophia
As Emma Sophia Eburne, she was born in London on 15 August 1819 and baptised at the Old Church at St Pancras, London on 29 August 1819, daughter of William Eburne (1787-1833), a coachbuilder of Rathbone Place, London, and his wife Mary. Emma, when of Frith Street, Soho, married at the same church on 21 September 1840, William Oliver and they had two children William Redivivas, born in 1841 and Emma Caroline, born in 1844. In 1849, Emma was elected a member of the New Society of Painters in Water Colours now Royal Society of Painters in Water Colours, and exhibited landscapes, both in water-colours and in oil, at the Royal Academy; British Institution; Royal Society of British Artists and various provincial galleries including at Suffolk Fine Arts Association at Ipswich in 1850, 'Farm Yard near Llanbedr, North Wales'. After the death of her husband in 1853, she married again at Kensington, London in 1855, John Sedgwick, a solicitor of Watford, Hertfordshire, but continued to follow her profession in her first husband's name until her death. Emma Sophia Sedgwick died at the Brewery House, Great Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire on 15 March 1885.
