NEWELL, Maxine
Maxine Doreen Newell was born at Brentwood, Essex in 1966, daughter of Arthur T. Newell and his wife Sylvia Ann née Bloom (28 February 1938-2013), who married at Bethnal Green, London in 1961. Maxine was educated at Nicholas Comprehensive School, Basildon, Essex 1977–1982, Art & Design at South-East Essex College, Basildon Campus, Essex 2004–2006, and at University of Essex, Southend-on-Sea 2011-2014, graduating B.A. (hons) in Fine Art. Maxine worked in Signalling Design for London Underground. Her watercolour drawings can begin as a rough sketch from life or as a photograph to translate a captured moment from life to paper. She uses a limited watercolour palate so as not to complicate her technique, it is the simplicity of the outcome that is important with her love for Felixstowe and the surrounding areas of Suffolk to provide her inspiration. Maxine has set up her own studio gallery Art e Max in Sea Road, Felixstowe, minutes from the promenade and the sea, which enables her to continue to develop her practice. She exhibits her watercolour drawings at Art at the Ferry; Gallery 142, Hamilton Road, and at Art on the Prom all in Felixstowe.
