SAUMAREZ, Hon. Christine
Christine Saumarez was born at Easthampstead, Berkshire on 31 July 1916, daughter of James St Vincent Broke Saumarez (29 November 1889–16 January 1969), who inherited as 5th Baron Saumarez in 1937, and his wife Gunhild Balck (11 December 1889-30 March 1985), younger daughter of Maj-Gen. Sir Viktor Gustaf Balck, who married at Stockholm on 30 April 1914. Christine was a niece of Marion Saumarez and sister of Veronica Saumarez. Christine exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club from Broke Hall, Nacton, Ipswich in 1932, two watercolours 'Trees at Levington Farm' and 'Assisi' and she also exhibited with sister Veronica at the Beaux Arts Gallery in 1936. She married at St Margaret's Westminster, London on 15 April 1944, equestrian champion Sir Henry [Harry] Morton Llewellyn, 3rd Baronet (18 July 1911–15 November 1999) and was the mother of three children including David St Vincent (Dai) (1946-2009), who inherited the baronetcy, and Roderic Victor (Roddy) (born 1947) who had an eight-year affair with Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon and who inherited his brother's baronetcy, and Anna Christina (born 1956). Christine, who was in the Women's Royal Naval Service during the Second World War, died on 20 April 1998 and was buried at Coddenham, Suffolk.
