SAUMAREZ, Hon. Veronica

1915 - 2002

Veronica Saumarez, was born at Marlebone, London on 21 June 1915, daughter of James St Vincent Broke Saumarez (18891969), who inherited as 5th Baron Saumarez in 1937, and his wife Gunhild née Balck (1889-1985), daughter of Maj-Gen. Sir Victor Gustaf Balck of Stockholm, who married on 30 April 1914. A niece of Marion Saumarez [q.v.] and sister of Christine Saumarez [q.v.]. Veronica exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club from Broke Hall, Nacton, Ipswich in 1932, a watercolour 'Amalfi'. In 1939, she was living at Shrubland Hall Barham, near Ipswich with her parents, an estate her father inherited in 1937 and she was with the British Red Cross and Auxiliary Territorial Service during the Second World War. She married on 12 July 1945, Brigadier Anthony William Allen Llewellen Palmer, son of Colonel William Llewellen Palmer and Lady Alexandra Augusta Wynn-Carington, and they had one son Julian N. Llewellen Palmer (1964-31 March 2002). Veronica died on 6 December 2002 at age 87.
