1810 - 1878

Samuel Alexander, was born at Needham Market, Suffolk and baptised the same day at St Peter's church, Ipswich on 4 November 1810, son of Samuel Alexander (1773-1838), banker, and his wife Rebecca née Biddle (1777-1849), who married at Esher, Surrey on 28 February 1805. A member of the Ipswich Society of Professional & Amateur Artists from 1832, where he was probably tutored by Henry Davy [q.v.]. He married at Ipswich on 17 October 1835, Rebecca Upson (1802-1888). In 1839 he emigrated to Port Adelaide, Australia arriving on the 16 May. He died in 1878, aged 68.
