WRIGHT, Elizabeth

1928 - 2015

As Elizabeth Bodman, she was born at Bristol on 22 March 1928, daughter of Dr Francis Hervey Bodman, M.D. (27 November 1900-17 January 1980) and his first wife Irene Early née Gates (10 October 1902-1987), who married at Bristol in 1926. After schooling at Oxford, Elizabeth studied at Oxford Art School then took a domestic science course at Atholl Crescent Cookery School at Edinburgh. At various times she has been a cook at Eton College, model, usherette and Land Army girl, but always kept up her painting. During 1946-1947 she studied at the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing at Benton End, Hadleigh, Suffolk, under Arthur Lett-Haines and Cedric Morris where she gained the nickname 'Body' and where she met Tom Wright, whom she married at Sudbury, Suffolk in 1949. Elizabeth Wright died on 2 July 2015.
