CUSHING, Harold Sydney
Harold Sydney Cushing was born at 1 Bevan Street, Lowestoft, Suffolk on 17 June 1901, second son of Arthur Cushing (10 February 1875-1952), a harness maker, and his wife Eliza Rebecca née Thurston (25 March 1877-1946), who married at St Margaret's Church, Lowestoft on 12 February 1899. In 1911, Harold was a 9-year-old, living at 90 Philadelphia Lane, Norwich with his grand-parents, George and Rosetta Norton. In 1918, at the age of 17, admitted a member of the National Union of Railwaymen and in 1939, an unmarried locomotion fireman, living at 268 Denmark Road, Lowestoft with his parents and sibling, Audrey May Cushing (18 February 1907-2003). A founder member of Oulton Broad Art Circle and a member and exhibitor at the Beccles Society of Artists 1977-1985 and his watercolour 'Sailing Boats on Oulton Broad' (27cm x 36.5cm) was offered for sale by auction. Harold Sydney Cushing died at 18 Elmhurst Avenue, Oulton Broad, Lowestoft on 11 May 1985.
