BERRY, Penny

As Penelope J. Paterson, she was born at Tonbridge, Kent in 1941, daughter of James Paterson and his wife Florence A. Taylor, who married at Tonbridge in 1935. Penny studied at Brighton Art School and the North East Essex School of Art. As Penelope J. Paterson, she married at Tunbridge Wells in 1986, Kenneth R. Berry and works under the name of Penny Berry but sometimes as Penny Berry Paterson. An honorary member of the Suffolk Craft Society, Penny specialises in framed, limited editions of original prints, often depicting colourful images inspired by coastal and nautical themes, architectural subjects, ills and industrial buildings in particular, and the Suffolk countryside. She mainly produces relief prints, using lino, card and more recently wood, and occasionally enjoys diversifying into the media of drypoints, collographs and monoprints. She exhibited from Oak Cottage, Lower Road, Middleton, Sudbury, Suffolk at the 'Visions of Sudbury' show at St Peter's church, Sudbury in 2007, a monoprint 'Carvings at Salter's Hall' and a linocut 'Misericord Seat at St Gregory's', in 2009 a watercolour 'Spring at Baker's Mill' and in 2013 had a watercolour 'Fertile Patch' on show.
