Alfie Carpenter

Alfred John Carpenter was born at Ipswich on 11 October 1989, son of Michael Carpenter and his wife Catharine née Scott and in 1993 they moved to Debenham and Alfie, as he was known, was raised in rural Suffolk. As a youngster, Alfie had two loves, music, and art and in 2008 completed a music degree at Leeds College of Music, specialising in singing and composition. Alfie addressed both music and art with a similar ethos not allowing specific inspirations directly influence an outcome but aimed to tackle artistic projects with an instinctive mindset, which processes crept into his landscapes and portraits helping to bring out a consistency across his artwork. Alfie was generous with colour and pattern, especially when interpreting the embellishments in landscapes, rows of crops, tractor trails, hedgerows, hay bales and pylons, whatever caught his attention. He exhibited with Artworks from 46 High Street, Stowmarket, Suffolk and at Wymondham Art Society, Norfolk; Ejart Creative, Hasketon, Suffolk; Carousel Gallery, Framlingham; Frame Workshop & Gallery, Ipswich; The Quay Gallery at Snape Maltings; Spiral Gallery, Debenham and in October 2018 at St Mary's Church Debenham six acrylic paintings. Alfie Carpenter died of his leukaemia on 20 June 2023. His book of illustrations 'The Tide of All Things. A Collection' is available on his website and some of his paintings are available at Spiral Gallery, Debenham.
