TAPHOUSE, Doris Mary
As Doris Mary Byrne, she was born at Totton, Hampshire on 16 November 1897, eldest of the three daughters of Henry Ponten Byrne (18 May 1867-4 May 1955), a dealer in motor cars, and his wife Eva Mary née Pyke (30 May 1867-20 November 1946), who married at New Forest, Hampshire in 1897 and in 1939, with Henry a retired civil servant, they were living at Old Vicarage, Witney, Oxordshire. In 1911, Doris was a 13-year-old, living at Beech Holme, Lyndhurst Road, Colbury, Hampshire with her parents, 43 year old Henry and 43-year-old Eva, with two younger sisters, Mildred Charlotte 11 and Ada Elizabeth 9, both born at Totton. Doris married at Epsom, Surrey in 1928, Frank Goodwin Taphouse and they had one son, Ralph, born in 1933. In 1939, Doris was a married woman, living at The Old Vicarage, Witney with her parents. The Taphouse's later returned to live at Church Street, Southwold where Doris was a committee member and exhibitor at the Southwold Art Circle. Doris Mary Taphouse died at 42 Church Street, Southwold on 2 May 1974.
