TAPHOUSE, Frank Goodwin
Frank Goodwin Taphouse was born at Fulham, London on 16 August 1902, eldest child of Frank Taphouse (19 December 1875-10 April 1957), ladies tailor, and his wife Sarah Goodwin (8 March 1879-1972), third daughter of the late James Goodwin of Southwold, who married at St Edmund's Church, Southwold, Suffolk on 10 September 1901, and in 1939 were living at 26 Mitchley Hill, Coulsdon and Purley, Surrey. In 1911, Frank was an 8-year-old, living at 131 Elsenham Street, Wandsworth, London with his parents, 35-year-old Frank and 32-year-old Sarah, who was born at Southwold, and his sibling sister Olive Sarah 5 and Frank sen., mother-in-law Sarah Dean Farr 73, and sister-in-law Annie Elizabeth Goodwin 40, both born at Southwold. Frank matriculated at St John's College, Cambridge in 1921 and graduated M.A. He married at Epsom, Surrey in 1928, Doris Mary Taphouse née Byrne. In 1938 Frank was gazetted 2nd Lieut. in the Hertford Grammar School Contingent and in 1939 senior Chaucer Master at Grand School Hertford living at 40 Fordwich Rise, Hertford whilst his wife was living at The Old Vicarage, Witney, Oxfordshire with her parents. They returned to live at Church Street, Southwold where they were committee members and exhibitors at Southwold Art Circle. Frank Goodwin Taphouse died at 42 Church Street, Southwold on 30 January 1971.
