WHATLING, Susan
Susan Ann Whatling was born in the Blyth district of Suffolk in 1970, daughter of David George Whatling (18 March 1937-6 January 1998) and his wife Josephine A. née King (born 1941), who married at Blyth in 1965, she is sister to Helen Oghenegweke. Susan, having a strong interest in architecture and design, completed her B.A. (hons) degree in 1993. With her early passion for drawing, she initially produced commissioned architectural ink drawings for local clients and, after gaining further drawing experience while working for an architect, in 1998 Susan qualified from Homerton College, Cambridge to teach Art and Design. Living at Barham's Way, Woodbridge, Suffolk, she continues producing portraits and paintings, also teaching part-time in primary schools. During 2012, after successful completion of an MA in education, Susan explored further printmaking processes and was offered the opportunity to join Sudbourne Park Printmakers. An associate member of Suffolk Open Studios, she has exhibited locally including at Bank Arts Centre, Eye, displaying both animal portraits and in recent years, landscape paintings. Her commissioned work has a place in private homes across the UK and USA including graphic design and photographic work.
