ROSE, Winter James Robert Vyvyan
Winter James Robert Vyvyan Rose was born on 2 March 1943, eldest of the four children of Victor Hunter Vyvyan Rose (7 June 1918-18 May 1976), an army officer, and his wife Janet née McGowan (died 23 June 2002), who married on 7 December 1940. Winter was educated at Eton and, after a career in international business, took up studies at the Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts in London. Concentrating initially on photography, he specialised in portraiture. The transition into printmaking started out as an experiment, but it has since taken over from photography as his focus, but the photographic influence is always evident in Winter's work, as is a strong graphic element, and he is continually exploring innovative ideas while perfecting the hybrid between photography and conventional printmaking techniques. He has exhibited at Mall Galleries in London and is represented by Galerķa La Pinacoteca in El Salvador. Winter is chairman to Sudbourne Park Printmakers. He married at Richmond-on-Thames in 1970, Adela Novoa and they lived at The Moat Farm, Framlingham, Suffolk.
