OWEN, Annie
Annie M. Owen studied graphic design at Goldsmiths College, London and at the London College of Printing. Annie commenced her career working as picture editor on the 'British Journal of Photography', where her lifelong love of photography was nurtured. Whilst raising her children, Annie wrote and illustrated several children’s books, several of which have been translated into foreign languages. When her children had reached adulthood, she travelled increasingly to explore wider horizons, with a real passion the Indian subcontinent where she travelled regularly and extensively, accumulating a large body of photographic work and detailed journals. Travelling alone, preferring rural villages to tourist monuments, and long dusty roads rather than air-conditioned comfort, her images reflect the love of the detail of daily life and people feeling at home. Annie has extended her artistic portfolio to include printmaking including woodcuts, etchings, dry-point prints, paintings, and collage. She has had solo exhibitions at Spiral Gallery, Debenham, Suffolk; Blue Lawn Gallery, 19 Baddow Road, Chelmsford and at Fisher Theatre Gallery, Bungay, Suffolk with mixed shows at International Print Biennale, Penang, Malaysia; Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Gallery, 4a Castletown Road, West Kensington, London as well as many throughout Suffolk. Annie now works with her partner Tony Hatt in their graphic and website design business, Hatt Owen Design at Debenham, Stowmarket, Suffolk.
